Canned Pizza Sauce

Our Pizza Seasoning is incredibly versatile, and is useful at any stage of cooking. If you are making pizza at home, mix some of this blend into your pizza dough for an out of this world tasting pizza crust. Add one tablespoon of seasoning to two cups of tomato sauce for a more flavorful sauce. Or sprinkle it on top after the pizza is done cooking.

This blend isn't just for pizza, either. You can mix with breading for great chicken parmesan or oven-baked pork chops, or add to spinach dip. Mix in your meatloaf, and this would make a great flavor base for a veggie-packed minestrone or tortellini soup. Whip in with goat cheese for unforgettable crostini.

This salt-free seasoning blend for our pizza-loving friends is savory and earthy, highly aromatic with sun-loving herbs and spices like fennel seed and basil, pungent with onion and garlic, and carries a touch of heat from crushed red pepper flakes. This careful balance of flavors gives homemade pizzas authentic pizzeria flavor, enhanced by the aroma—an herbal medley with peppery-bright fragrance, balanced with the deeper notes of onion and garlic. All of our seasoning blends are blended in-house, by hand in small batches, to provide our customers with the freshest seasonings possible.

We tend to over-do pizza, loading it with strongly-flavored toppings, like sausage or pepperoni. In Italy, pizza is more stripped down. It originated in Naples, and it used to be affordable food for laborers; marinara sauce was so named because it was created by the wives of seamen—or marinaio—so their husbands could eat when they returned to port. Neapolitan pizza was a showcase for hearty flatbread, beautiful tomato sauce, fresh cheese, perhaps some anchovies, and the herbs and spices that make these simple ingredients sing. The classic pizza Margherita, created for a royal visit by Italy’s Queen Margherita to Naples in 1889. The Queen favored the simplest pizza with the most basic ingredients, that showcased local herbs made by a local restaurateur.

Why not make a big batch of sauce with our aromatic and flavorful pizza seasoning to can and use whenever you need that special oomph to your recipes? So practical!

We don't think a pizza needs tons of cheese and meat to be delicious. This is a classic style pizza with simple ingredients but an amazing history. I am adding a link to a whole wheat pizza dough recipe that I make easily in the food processor. You can use whatever dough you prefer, just note that the nutritional information is based on the whole wheat pizza dough (thin crust version).

Contrary to popular belief pizza was not created by the Italians but instead by the early Greeks who baked round, large, flat breads which they "topped with oil, spices, herbs and dates." By the 18th century this tasty "flat bread" made its way to Italy where they were sold by street vendors who served them without any toppings. Inexpensive to make, these became favored by the poor throughout Naples. Around 1889, Queen Margherita was touring her Italian Kingdom and she saw many peasants eating this large, flat bread. The queen had her guards bring her one of these Pizza breads. She loved the flavor and would enjoy them every time she was out among her people. Naturally this was not considered Queen-like by her court. The Queen summoned Chef Rafaelle Esposito from his pizzeria and requested him to bake her a selection of pizzas. He was so honored that he created a special pizza for her, he topped this baked pizza with tomatoes, Mozarella cheese and fresh Basil (representing the colors of the Italian flag). This quickly became one of Queen Margherita's favorite foods, which of course wildly increased her popularity among the Italian people. Pizza Margherita became a culinary tradition that is still popular in Naples.
